Microblading & Permanent Makeup FAQ

We have answers to all your microblading and permanent makeup questions! If you don’t see your question here, contact us, and we’ll get back to you within one business day.

What is Microblading?

Microblading is a semi-permanent brow enhancement technique that uses a handheld tool with ultra-fine needles to create natural-looking, hair-like strokes. Unlike other brow techniques that use a machine, microblading artists manually draw each stroke to match the color, shape, and coarseness of your natural eyebrows. The result? Gorgeous, fuller brows that look completely natural!

How long does it last?

Microbladed eyebrows typically last 1 to 2 years before needing a touch-up, depending on skin type, lifestyle, and skincare routine.

Does it hurt?

Most clients report little to no pain! We apply a topical anesthetic before the procedure to numb the area for maximum comfort.

How much does it cost?

Our current pricing is listed on our Book Now page. The initial appointment includes a complimentary touch-up session and covers all professional-grade materials, including sterile tools, high-quality pigments, and anesthetics.

How long does the appointment take?

A microblading session typically lasts about 3.5 hours, with most of the time spent choosing colors, shaping the brows, and applying numbing cream. The actual microblading process takes about one hour.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

Before your appointment, we encourage you to check out our Instagram for brow inspiration. Brow shapes and styles vary—from feathered to bold, arched to straight—so it helps to have an idea of what you like!

In the week leading up to your appointment, avoid:

  • Blood thinners (including aspirin)

  • Alcohol

  • Retinol creams

How long does it take to heal?

Your brows will be ready to show off immediately, but proper healing takes about 30 days.

  • First 7 days: Avoid getting your brows wet, wearing brow makeup, or working out.

  • Mild scabbing may occur but is completely normal.

  • Read more about Aftercare here.

What is the aftercare?

To ensure the best results, avoid:

  • Sun exposure, steam, and swimming

  • Chlorine and exfoliating creams

  • Picking or scratching at the brows

Apply a small amount of vitamin A&D ointment only if needed. See full aftercare details here.

When should I get a touch-up?

We offer a complimentary touch-up between 4–8 weeks after your initial appointment. After that, touch-ups are available for a fee—see pricing details here.

Can I get microblading while pregnant?

No, we do not recommend microblading while pregnant or breastfeeding.

Who is NOT a good candidate for microblading?

Microblading may not be suitable for individuals with:

  • Oily skin or large pores (we recommend shading or combo brows instead)

  • Skin conditions such as shingles, psoriasis, eczema (on the treatment area)

  • Keloid disorder or allergies to makeup

  • HIV, Hepatitis, or Hemophilia

  • Diabetes or glaucoma

  • Certain medications (like Accutane and steroids)

Must be 18 years or older. See our full Terms & Conditions for details.

Can I get permanent makeup if I have Juvederm or fillers?

Yes, but we recommend getting permanent makeup before fillers or checking with your specialist first.

Can microblading cover an old eyebrow tattoo or permanent makeup?

In many cases, no, but if your previous brow work has significantly faded, we may be able to blend it using a combo or shading technique. Send us a photo for evaluation.

Can microblading cover scars?

Yes! Microblading is an excellent option for covering scars. To determine if you're a candidate, please send us a makeup-free photo of your brows.

Does microblading work on all skin tones and types?

Yes! Microblading is suitable for all skin tones. However, if you have oily skin, large pores, or keloid tendencies, we may recommend an alternative technique. Check our full list of contraindications.

What is the difference between microblading and micropigmentation?

Microblading is a manual technique where we hand-draw each stroke with a fine blade.
Micropigmentation uses a machine, which can create a softer, powdered look rather than crisp hair strokes.

Does it really look like real hair?

Absolutely! Because we hand-draw each stroke, the result is ultra-precise and natural-looking.

No more drawing my eyebrows every morning? For real?

Yes! Microblading transforms your brows—and your confidence. That’s why we’re so passionate about the work we do at My Best Brows!
